In the summer of 2020 for the annual Nelson Mandela Day, MK Advisors teamed with the Nelson Mandela Foundation to provide meals for 130,000 people. MK Advisors is excited to continue our strategic partnership in support of the 2022 UN General Assembly (17-22 September). With a large focus of our work in sub-Saharan Africa, we have always aligned ourselves with the legacy and the mission of Nelson Mandela (Madiba). We are honored to be a partner and promoter of his lifelong vision of freedom and equality for all. Madiba said, “Until such time that women are free, we will never have peace, we will never know prosperity as a people.” That is why MK Advisors has focused on amplifying female voices and contributions through our project development work and incubations.

About Nelson Mandela Foundation

The Nelson Mandela Foundation was established in 1999 when its Founder, Mr. Nelson Mandela, stepped down as the President of South Africa. Mandela was South Africa’s first democratically elected President and was unanimously elected on May 9, 1994, vowing at that time to only serve one term as President.

Soon after Mr. Mbeki was inaugurated as President on June 16, 1999, Mr. Mandela was on the telephone to rally his staff for the new tasks ahead, and the Nelson Mandela Foundation was born.

The founding principles of the organization are:

  • The creation, establishment, protection, and preservation of a Centre of Memory about Mandela, which contains an archive of the life and times, works, and writings of the Founder
  • Convening dialogue around critical social issues, including particular issues regarding human rights and democracy, in order to contribute to a just society
  • The promotion of, or engaging in, philosophical activities, including discussion regarding issues pertaining to human rights and democracy
  • The raising of funds in furtherance of the Trust’s objectives
  • The provision of support services to, or the promotion of the common interests of, public benefit organisations

“Because these struggles are common, solidarity needs to be… even a common space and place for all of us.”

Sello Hatang, Chief Executive: Nelson Mandela Foundation

About The Partnership

The Nelson Mandela Foundation focuses its work on contributing to the making of just societies by mobilizing the legacy of Nelson Mandela, providing public access to information on his life and times, and convening dialogue on critical social issues. The key objective, which strongly aligns with our work, is finding sustainable solutions to the problems confronting humanity. We’ve worked closely with Chief Executive, Sello Hatang, over the years and are excited that he will be joining us in person at the UN General Assembly. Prior to his role as Chief Executive, he was the Head of Information Communications and spokesperson for the South African Human Rights Commission.

This partnership is going to create the opportunity for us to expand the mission and values of Madiba around the world. We are so proud to be representing The Nelson Mandela Foundation at the UN General Assembly in NYC where Sello will be sharing the legacy story of Madiba, and creating partnerships with other US organizations who share that vision.  To follow along with our efforts, continue to check out our blog or follow us on Facebook or LinkedIn.
